Your wedding is a celebration of your marriage, and what better way to celebrate than with a cake that reflects your style!
ABOUT TASTINGS
So many choices and each one is tailored to your personal taste. Wedding cake tastings typically take around 60 minutes. The pastry chef will describe each flavour in detail and offer notes and substitutions. Make sure to book your tasting well in advance to your big day. Tastings are typically booked 6 months prior to your wedding day.
COME PREPARED!
Before booking a tasting, it's important to have an idea or image of what your finalized wedding cake will look like... dream big! ...or small, it's really up to you.
Bring pictures of your ideal bouquet, dress, table settings to present to the chef. Having this final image will help your pastry chef design a beautiful cake within your budget. Share your list of what you love (and what you don't) for flavour and design. It’s important to take notes and review your tastings when deciding on your choice of flavour.
TRENDS & BUDGETING
Wedding cakes come in all different shape, sizes, and designs. It's important to do your research and look for designs before you book a consultation or tasting. Cake trends are constantly changing, while you may want to take part in cake trends or fall in love with a certain design, remember that cakes are truly a work of art, and let's not forget time consuming! Yes, an experienced pastry chef can certainly create the cake-masterpiece of your dreams, but don't forget that this comes at a cost. The average wedding cake cost ranges from $300-700 on average.
EAT & DRINK
It is recommended that you eat before you attend a tasting. If you are tasting on an empty stomach, it may be harder for you to decide on what you actually enjoyed after everything is gobbled up quickly. Tastings should be savoured. Bite into one sample, then another, then back to the first one... take your time and really savour the flavours.
Have a sip of water between each bite, not only to cleanse your palette, but to help keep hydrated.
SPEAK YOUR MIND!
It's important to be clear and confident in your tasting. The entire purpose of the tasting is to find out what you love most! Communication is key. If you like the flavour of one frosting, but not the cake beneath it, say so! Changes can certainly be made... and after all, this is your wedding cake, it should be exactly the way you would like it!
